Primer On Pro-Life Incrementalism

This news item that I received last week reminded me of the lively debate going on in pro-life circles in the US right now. The debate centers on whether or not pro-lifers should support proposed legislation that is not aimed at banning all abortions, e.g. no exceptions for rape and incest.

How I wish we in Canada were having that debate! Imagine what that would mean—there would be serious pro-life legislation coming forward in provincial capitals!

The debate centers around the concept of incrementalism, something I referred to in a previous posting. But this posting from LTI blog is a much better summary of the situation. Read the article and be sure to click through on the links so you can be better equipped and prepared when we in Canada arrive at the same point as our US colleagues.

Yes, that day will come....if we don’t become faint-hearted.

Update:

1. Family Research Council recently posted to their blog a very good case for pro-life incrementalism. Go check it out.

2. Campaign Life Coalition, a Canadian pro-life, pro-family organization, writes an excellent, must read account of incrementalism in the Canadian context, entitled "How to Chip Away at Abortion."

Incrementally the abortion situation got to where it is today... incrementally, is how we will return abortion to its proper view in society.

jek,
Those are my thoughts as well, until someone is able to present a more credible approach.
